One verb, two superpowers

To have with 有

有 (yǒu) means "to have, to possess." Its negation is always 没有, never 不有!

Subject + 有 + Noun

I have three books.

I have a Chinese friend.

I don't have a cat.

When the subject is a place, 有 means "there is": the place "possesses" what is found there.

Place + 有 + Noun

There is a cup on the table.

There are many people at home.
