Result Complements

完, 到, 见, 懂: indicating the action is completed

Verb + Result

A second character attached to the verb specifies the result: 完 (finished), 到 (reached), 见 (perceived), 懂 (understood). The pair behaves as a single verb.

Verb + 完/到/见/懂 (+ 了)

我wǒ 做zuò 完wán 作业zuò yè 了le。

I finished my homework.

我wǒ 找zhǎo 到dào 我wǒ 的de 手机shǒu jī 了le。

I found my phone.

我wǒ 听tīng 懂dǒng 了le。

I understood (by listening).

Negation with 没

To say the result is not achieved: 没 + verb + result, without 了.

没 + Verb + result

我wǒ 没méi 听tīng 懂dǒng。

I didn't understand.

他tā 还hái 没méi 做zuò 完wán。

He hasn't finished yet.
